CCPN Programs – November 2008

Registration for classes is required.
You may register on-line or by calling 828-465-8151.

New Classes Beginning in November

  Positive Discipline – November 6, 13, 20, December 4 and 11 – Shuford Elementary School   6:30 – 8:30 pm
                                   (Target Audience:  Parents of children ages 3-12.)

           All support groups are free of charge and most provide child care.

Parent Wise – English – For all parents who would like fellowship with and support from other parents. Meets every Thursday night at First Presbyterian Church in Hickory from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. Dinner and childcare are included. Call 465-8151 for more information. Sponsored by CCPN.

ADHD Support Group – English - For parents of children with ADHD or thought to have ADHD. Meets the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at the Tyndall Center on County Home Road in Conover. Childcare is provided. For more information, please call Allison Simpson at 464-7384. Sponsored by CCPN and Solutions of Hickory.

Dad’s League – Multi-cultural – For dads of children 0 – 18 years who want parenting information, resources, support and fellowship. Meets the 3rd Thursday of each month from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Hickory Foundation YMCA. Childcare is available. For more information, contact David Shuping at 695-5745. Sponsored by CCPN and YMCA of Catawba Valley.

Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group - Meets the 3rd Saturday of each month at 11:00 a.m. at The Catawba County Parenting Network. Childcare is provided. For more information, contact Nancy Riddick-McClelland at 234-0846. Sponsored by CCPN.

Sensory Integration Support Group – For parents and caregivers of children with sensory integration difficulties. Meets the last Tuesday of each month from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Children’s Neurotherapy Services (CNS) office on Lenoir-Rhyne Blvd. in Hickory (behind Golden Corral). Childcare is available if registered in advance. To register or for more information, call 267-1688. Sponsored by CCPN and Children’s Neurotherapy Services.

There are no new classes beginning in December. 
Active Parenting Now (Spanish), Cooperative Parenting and Divorce,
and Positive Discipline classes will begin in January, 2009.

The Catawba County Parenting Network is affiliated with Catawba County Schools, Hickory City Schools, Newton Conover Schools, Catawba Valley Community College and Catawba Valley Medical Center.

Created in 1999, the Catawba County Parenting Network is primarily funded by the Catawba County Partnership for Children (Smart Start) and is a program of Catawba County Schools. The Network works with families in Catawba County Schools, Newton-Conover Schools and Hickory Public Schools.
